1. Character- The people or animals in the book
Brittany says "Everyone knows Im perfect. My life is perfect. My clothes are perfect. Even my family is perfect. And although it's a complete lie, I've worked my butt off to keep up the appearance that I have it all. the truth, if it were to come out, would destroy my entire picture-perfect image."
Alex says "My veins fire up as I flag right back before straddling my motorcycle. They want a tough-as -nails member, they got one. I put on a hell of a show to the outside world;sometimes I even surprise myself."
The author presents Brittany as a rich and perfect teenage.The author presents Alex as a gang member that only does bad thing but has a loving side to him.
2. Setting-Where, when, time, and idea where the story took place
Sierra says "Chicago isn't exactly known for its calm weather."
Brittany though "I say as i drive on Vine Street toward Fairfield High in my new convertible."
The author presents the setting in Chicago, IL at Fairfield High.
3. Point of View - The perspective the book is told from
This whole book is told in a limited Point of View.
Brittany says "Everyone knows I'm perfect." "My hair gets all frizzy in this car,Sierra."
Alex says "I knew I would be called into the new principal's office at some point during the year, but I didn't expect it to be on the first day of school." "I'm not starting any fights." "I might finish one thought"
The author tells the whole book in a limited Point of View. Each chapter either is named Brittany or Alex because its from there point of view.
4. Conflict - The problem in the story
Sierra says "Rumor has it Carmen Sanchez is looking for you." (Carmen is in the same gang as Alex. She is trying to get back at Brittany for almost running into the back of Alex's motorcycle.)
(Chemistry class ) Mrs. Peterson says " Brittany Ellis you are here (sitting at a science school table) Then she says Alejandro Fuentes you are next to Brittany. (Which is a problem because Brittany thinks Alex is a bad person and thinks he wont get the projects for chem class done with her so she thinks she's going to fail the class.)
The author presents conflict in this book to be Man vs. Man. The conflict is between Carmen and Brittany , Brittany and Alex, Alex and Colin, and there was some internal conflict. Which is between Brittany and her mind,and Alex and his mind.
5. Mood - The way the author want you to think about the book
Alex whispers, "There's a thin line between love and hate.Maybe you're confusing your emotions." (This mood tells me he's playing with Brittany's head.)
Brittany says " I wouldn't bet on it." (This mood tells me Brittany doesn't want anything to do with Alex.)
The author presents the mood to be a hate /love relationship between Brittany and Alex.
